Life is pretty standard around my parts. It's been awhile, so I feel a bit obliged to update.

As I said above, life is pretty standard. Work is, well, work. It's far less painful than any other job, it pays quite well and it's an amazing environment. The downside being that it sucks up a lot of my day. Not that I have any grand plans to escape, but these 9-hour days are already starting to take the toll, kinda. That sounds bleak. I suppose I just don't enjoy waking up early.

I started my running regiment again. I'm up to ~4 miles, partially due to my new-found proximity to work (see also: .4 miles). At the end of October I moved out of the SE Grant St. House into some shitty new digs with some old college friends. It's a decent situation in a crappy house, but it's close to work and makes for easy-livin'. But yeah, I run to the Nike campus, which has a nice 2-mile trail surrounding it. It's a nice release, especially after sitting on my ass all damn day.

Aside from the length of work and my jogging activities, I'm learning a whole lot. The system I am working on / with is absolutely monolithic. It's been a month of solid hands-on training and I'm just now starting to grasp some of the inner workings of it. That and my group is starting to warm up to me a bit. Starting over was rough. In the old group that I interned with, I already had a reputation, a good one at that (imagine!), now, I'm having to recarve that same ol' stone.

But on the upside, my Linux command-line kung-fu is improving, my shell scripting skills are improving as are my java and log-deciphering skills. yay for me. 2006!

In my offtime I've been working on the new redesign for Mixtape Collective. Lovingly called '2.0,' it picks up where I left off in terms of design and usability. Corey and I have really been busting out asses to make this the best we can. Progress is seemingly slow, but it's going to be rad. Just a few more months of work...

One of the people living in this crap-shack own a drumset that resides next to my room in the basement. This has spurred many impromptu jam sessions between him and I. I'm totally fucking astonished at how fast he's progressed as a drummer. We play stupid shit, but it's also helped be improve on my chops a little bit. I hadn't regularly played since graduation in June. Shit's just been too busy. Sound like an excuse, but it's kind of true.

This past weekend, I took the good-ol-boy jerly back to the Valley with me on one of my patented Lightning-strike voyages. The drive was pretty stellar, albeit a bit long. Due to traffic and other variables, the trip that normally takes me ~4 hours to complete took closer to six. Oh well. I spent a lot of time with my parents. I always like to bring them home gifts from the employee store. For the first time in my life, I got my dad to wear sneakers instead of his hardcore redwing boots. My mom is a sucker for cute clothing and I like to think that I've got a good eye. They've been good to me, so I like to spoil them as best I can. I also spent a lot (see also: all) of my time with the wonderful Ms. Kim.

It's fucking remarkable that (in this incarnation of 'us') we've been 'dating' (sounds like such a strange term to apply to our relationship) for nearly 10 months. That may not seem like a long time, but shit, time really flies. I still remember spending an hour getting ready for our first 'meetup' after two years of total silence. I was so fucking nervous. I know, I know, I'm a smooth criminal, but she always manages to give me butterflies.

I could go on and on and on and on and on about how wonderful things are, how wonderful she is, etc, but I won't bore you. Suffice it to say, she'll be moving to Portland in January and that makes me a very, very, very, very, very happy boy.

I just purchased two tickets to see the Deftones in two weeks. I haven't paid that much for concert tickets in ages. Since Tool, probably. Coachella doesn't count, since there were like 120,000 bands there. Regardless, I'm excited. Ms. Kim will be my date. I haven't really given them much attention over the last few years, but I've always wanted to see them -- they had such a profound effect on my angsty power-chord teenage years. Plus, I want to see how fat Chino is.

Today, I got a mass-message from some myspace-music account. I usually disregard them, but they were offering up their album for free. It's nothing amazingly groundbreaking, but if you dig some neato production, you sure as shit can't beat free. They aren't paying me to plus this, I genuinely dig it. Life updates for October.

Dude, that bowl is totally photoshopped onto that kitty. The highlights are all wrong, and there is now shadow from the bowl.

Which begs the questions... who photoshops a bowl onto a kitten? Isn't that kitten cute enough without the bowl on his head?

I mean, if there really was a ceramic bowl on that kitten's head, he wouldn't even be able to lift his head up. The kitty is so small, and can't possibly have the neck strength to lift up something so heavy.

Also, who would have a bowl that small? Judging by the ratio of kitty to bowl, and taking into consieration my previous experiences with kitties of this age/size, I'd estimate that the bowl is about three to four inches in diameter. What would you put in a bowl that small? Obviously it is impractical for any manner of soup or stew or cereal, as the physical logistics of extracting liquid from it with a spoon are infuriating.
