"Twas the summer of '6-tee-nah-ah-hine . . . oh yeaah"

I 'ave great yearning to hear songs that sentimentally quantify the abundance of awesomeness of that the Summer season provides. The events of past 2 months of this been staggering, in hindsight. Graduated from S.O.U., jammed with Bosco, threw candy at little kids, drank beer, quit a job, watched Kyuss videos, saw a real live circus (in a tent), folded sheets, !Mexico City!, and proposed to my wonderful lady(she said "yes").
Most recently, I had a monumental dream that I saw the return of a rock n' roll band called the Murder City Devils with my radical dudes and about 3000 other people in Seattle town. In the dream I was reminded how great it feels to be young and have people in my life that make life worth living to the point of extatic exhaustion.

My list of goals for the month of Audgust is long, but with this momentum I can't go wrong. A few points of focus:
seeing the Mathew Barney installation at the SanFrancisco M.O.M.A., seeing A Silver Mt. Zion, prepare to move to Portland town, and finally see A Scanner Darkly. I might even get around to making a mixtape for the collective.

More soon, and in case you didn't know, this man is not funny.

Life has been busyhecticexcitingchaotic for me as of late. It's definitely been awhile since I've updated, so I'll try to hit everything:

The last 3 weekends have been spent with my muse. We've had a wonderful time exploring portland, sleeping in, drinking too much vodka and eating lots of rich food. It's been wonderful. It definitely cuts into my 'computer time,' but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make (insert smiley face here).

This last week was pretty monumental. I was contacted by the Human Resources department on monday about a full-time job position (Application Engineer) opening up on campus. Now, as you know, I returned to Nike as an intern, with no assurance of a job after my 10 weeks was over. I expressed interest and an interview was set up for thursday. I spent the nights leading up to the interview brushing up on my Java kung-fu and thinking of answers to the stress-enducing 'competency' questions that Nike is renound for.

Thursday morning at 8, my interview starts with the manager of the group and the lead developer. They take turns asking me questions, both technical and conceptual. I do pretty well. About halfway throught he hour-and-a-half interview, a junior developer walks in and starts grilling me with some rough questions that make me squirm. I put on my charming face and do the best I can, smiling a lot. Before I know it, it's over. I shake hands and go back to work.

Friday rolls around, I take my lunch, call sledg (WHO WAS DRIVING TO LA!) and chat with him about the ultrasavage Girl Talk album for a few when I get a call from an unknown number. I answer. It's the manager from the group I interviewed for. I accept the job.

I'm a full-time employee. Thank Jesus. Those student loans were starting to look mighty daunting. I have already begun spending my 2grand signing bonus on books and such.

I float on a cloud for the rest of the day. At 3:30, I dip out of work and drive home. About halfway to the Rogue Valley, my amp overheats and destroys itself. It takes my subwoofers with it. Fuck. Not cool. It was so fucking hot. I drank at least a gallon of liquid and didn't stop to urinate the entire way home. So hot.

I arrived around 8ish to surprise the woman. We visited my parents, watched Clerks II (which was about 3/4 suck) and fell asleep, hot and tired. The rest of the weekend was spent around the pool or driving around town. I even got to visit jeryl & darlia, who have some BIGBIGBIG news, but I'll let him tells you.

Today was a great, lowkey birthday. I spent most of the evening working on the Mixtape Collective with a little break to go eat dinner at a 24-hour steak-and-pancake house. I ate 3. I'm still very full.

Saturday marks the first 'boys-night' for the Jumpfighter crew in ages. Jeryl, Zac, Sledg, Raby, Jon and I are all going to see the Murder City Devils one-night-only reunion show in Seattle. Boy howdy am I pumped.

Anyway, it's late. I'd write more, but it's all pretty standard fare. Life is good on my end. Really fucking good.

I love you all.

Late July

Well, the day has finally come. I am driving 10 hours, with my car filled with my shit, to N. Hollywood. Studio City to be more specific. I will be starting myl earning at the Los Angeles Film School on Aug. 7th (about a week after my marathon drives to Seattle and back to see MCD). Its been an interesting week. Two action packed days hanging around the Bruce Campbell estate and observing a movie that they are filming there. A two night trip to Portland that turned out to be the opposite of steller. Walking into Sprint and US Bank back to back and telling them I wouldnt be giving them anymore of my business. You feel wierd doing that when other customers are around starting up accounts, etc. They must wonder what they are getting themselves into. I havent taken a shower in about a week. I dont know why. Then again, I dont know why I do anything anymore at this point. Ashland is this black hole where no matter what you do, you feel like shit. Fuck this place.

I recommend the band Television to anyone that hasnt heard them yet.

BYEBYE

Goodnight Oregon!

i'm in for a long couple of months. i'm on orders with my unit through september, so i'll be out there working at the armory mon-fri from 7:30ish to 4:30ish. then it's off to the gap to work from 5:45ish to 10ish. i'm doing ok today, but that's mostly because i didn't have much work to do for the army. in fact, there was so little for me to do that i spent most of the day making my newest mix for MTC. it was a lovely way to fill the day. eventually i'll make an army mix; all those songs which make me think of the army somehow. now i just have to keep my fingers crossed that the DoD doesn't catch on to what i'm up to and block MTC from the server. they already blocked myspace, so there goes guarenteed hours of entertainment. somehow endysis and MTC have managed to stay under their radar.

now, time for a little jon stewart before i head to bed and do it all over again tomorrow.

So yeah. I havent been much of a presence on here lately. I think it came be blamed on a few things. 1. mixtapecollective.org 2. laziness 3. getting older, having less of a need to share my life with strangers (which i think is whats going on with everyone on this site) 4. Eric introducing me to people in real life as SLEDG, which is embarassing to say the least.

My fourth of July is what you would expect. I drank tons and partied hardy. The only thing that was noteworthy was me being pulled over for JAYWALKING, which isnt illegal in ashland. Awesome.

Im moving to Los Angeles in two weeks to go to film school. Im starting to get anxious, as Ashland is killing me. Maybe once I start school, ill have some shit I need to get off my chest, and Ill write on here more. Im just tired of writing about the same ol' shit : sledg gets drunk and does stupid shit.

My Blurry Muse.

The first week is out of the way, and thanks to a glorious weekend, a corporate holiday and America's motherfucking birthday, I'm already halfway through my second. Glorious times, these are.

My first 5 workdays were a bit slow. Last time, when I showed up, everything was prepped, but this time, having experience, my boss and mentor thought it would be good to let me fend for myself. I spent the good part of 3 days playing phone / e-mail / cube tag with all sorts of different people attempting to get access to share drives, repositories, etc. Hectic and confusing to say the least. At the end of the week, I already found myself neck-deep in at least 3 hefty projects. I can't complain, however -- busy days makes the hours pass much more quickly.

This past weekend was spent with Ms. Kim, gallivanting around the Hawthorne area, watching movies, sleeping late, drinking vodka, taking naps, exploring the town, resting, eating good food and so forth. Three days in her arms is just about the most wonderful thing ever.

She left and I was lonely, so I decided to start work on the mixtape collective again. It's slow progress, as I am pretty pooped and coded-out by the time I get home, but it's nice to get back into the groove -- it's a wonderful project. I looked at the traffic logs and ran some comparisons -- exponential growth since we've opened -- that's what I like to see. We've got a long road ahead of us, but if my vision comes to fruition, it's going to be fucking epic.

On a side note, I have purchased my ticket for the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle where the Murder City Devils will be reuniting for one show. For $18.50 (including service charge), it's well fucking worth it. I'm just stoked because Sledg / Ian will be in LA and it's one more thing that I can hold over his head. Ian, just so you know, I'm going to give Spencer a hug and tell him why you suck.

Monday was spent coding and drinking beer. Tuesday was spent drinking beer, playing pool and watching MI:3 with the awesome roommates at the totally awesome Baghdad Theatre. Being able to drink a beer and watch a movie (for $3 admission) is beyond awesome. Then went to watch the oh-so-cool fireworks on the waterfront. I love Portland.

That reminds me, I went and watched Superman with the muse at OMSI's IMAX. It sucked. The fucking perspective of that place mixed with the crappy movie mixed with the fact that the lady next to me kept blowing her nose as hard as she could made for a less-than stellar experience. Plus, it was $12 a ticket. Plus I couldn't drink any beer in there. Weak.

This week looks to be daunting. Lots of work to do and lots of code to write. I'll try to update this thing more often, but I'll be the first to admit, it's low on my list of things to do. Sorry.

Muchlove.

First week: check
