So to catch everyone up on my life... Well I suppose there isn't a whole lot to tell. I started my new position at 41st BDE PBO. Translation: 41st Brigade Propery Book Office. My official title: Property Book Edit NCO. Actual meaning: we track, order, replace, trade, etc all the equipment for all the batallions in our brigade. Each batalion consists of approximately four companies, who consist of anywhere between 30 and 100 people. Essentially, a whole lot of expensive stuff. Stuff goes missing: we try to find it. If we can't find it, we try to replace it somehow. New batallions start up, we have to order new equipment for them. ie, the other day I ordered a grenade launcher for a new batallion. Yes, I ordered a grenade launcher. That's how cool my job is. My boss is worth billions and billions of dollars, so really if we screw up on some little thing like paperwork or something, it's his ass on the line. I have my own desk, my own computer, my own space to fill with pictures and other sentimental crap... It's glorious. A regular schedule, 8:00am to 4:30pm, I never have to think about what to wear in the morning or how to do my hair, and the pay is slightly more than decent. And I've got a guaranteed position until the end of next September. At that point I'll either be applying to grad schools or perhaps finding a new position elsewhere. Only time will tell.....

The Boy and I are officially back together. I sprung the "b" word (read: "boyfriend") on him the other day rather unexpectedly as I introduced him to my roommate's grandparents. His face was well worth it. So was my roommate's.... Things there are good. Surprisingly good. Terrifyingly good. He's not the same person I dated the last time around. I suppose I'm not the same person either. It works well, I'm quite happy, but this time it feels more.... I don't know, grown up? Serious? Long-term? Real? Something along those lines. We've taken it very slowly, careful to feel each situation out and try to figure where we're at each step of the way, but ultimately, I'm beyond happy. He's even making the trip down to the valley for Thanksgiving. That's right, I, Debbie, the girl who is terrified of her worlds crashing/mixing/meshing/what-have-you, is bringing The Boy home with her for a major household holiday. And I'm pretty stoked about it, believe it or not. Hopefully that goes well. We shall see...

The end of our lease at the Yuppie-ville Orenco Station apt is coming to an end quite rapidly. End of November we have to be out; I will be relocating to North Portland with a girl I work with (SGT Flansburg, aka: Miranda) to her big beautiful house that she lives in all alone while her finace is over in Afghanistan. I really just wanted to be moving into my own place, but will have to accept this for a couple of months until I can save enough with the new job for first/last/deposite. Hopefully by Feb I'll be settling into my very own apartment, hopefully downtown. Realistically I should be looking in the SE area, as I work in Clackamas every day, but ideally I will be settling in NW, as I adore the yuppiness of it all. With my luck I'll end up in NE. Damnit all....

For now, however, I'm going to head to bed. Sad that it's only 10:30 on a Friday night but I am A) very very poor, and B) very very tired. This regular work schedule is killing me! Oh for the love of a college schedule.....

Love to all!!!!!

always.....

wasn't it you....?

Life is pretty standard around my parts. It's been awhile, so I feel a bit obliged to update.

As I said above, life is pretty standard. Work is, well, work. It's far less painful than any other job, it pays quite well and it's an amazing environment. The downside being that it sucks up a lot of my day. Not that I have any grand plans to escape, but these 9-hour days are already starting to take the toll, kinda. That sounds bleak. I suppose I just don't enjoy waking up early.

I started my running regiment again. I'm up to ~4 miles, partially due to my new-found proximity to work (see also: .4 miles). At the end of October I moved out of the SE Grant St. House into some shitty new digs with some old college friends. It's a decent situation in a crappy house, but it's close to work and makes for easy-livin'. But yeah, I run to the Nike campus, which has a nice 2-mile trail surrounding it. It's a nice release, especially after sitting on my ass all damn day.

Aside from the length of work and my jogging activities, I'm learning a whole lot. The system I am working on / with is absolutely monolithic. It's been a month of solid hands-on training and I'm just now starting to grasp some of the inner workings of it. That and my group is starting to warm up to me a bit. Starting over was rough. In the old group that I interned with, I already had a reputation, a good one at that (imagine!), now, I'm having to recarve that same ol' stone.

But on the upside, my Linux command-line kung-fu is improving, my shell scripting skills are improving as are my java and log-deciphering skills. yay for me. 2006!

In my offtime I've been working on the new redesign for Mixtape Collective. Lovingly called '2.0,' it picks up where I left off in terms of design and usability. Corey and I have really been busting out asses to make this the best we can. Progress is seemingly slow, but it's going to be rad. Just a few more months of work...

One of the people living in this crap-shack own a drumset that resides next to my room in the basement. This has spurred many impromptu jam sessions between him and I. I'm totally fucking astonished at how fast he's progressed as a drummer. We play stupid shit, but it's also helped be improve on my chops a little bit. I hadn't regularly played since graduation in June. Shit's just been too busy. Sound like an excuse, but it's kind of true.

This past weekend, I took the good-ol-boy jerly back to the Valley with me on one of my patented Lightning-strike voyages. The drive was pretty stellar, albeit a bit long. Due to traffic and other variables, the trip that normally takes me ~4 hours to complete took closer to six. Oh well. I spent a lot of time with my parents. I always like to bring them home gifts from the employee store. For the first time in my life, I got my dad to wear sneakers instead of his hardcore redwing boots. My mom is a sucker for cute clothing and I like to think that I've got a good eye. They've been good to me, so I like to spoil them as best I can. I also spent a lot (see also: all) of my time with the wonderful Ms. Kim.

It's fucking remarkable that (in this incarnation of 'us') we've been 'dating' (sounds like such a strange term to apply to our relationship) for nearly 10 months. That may not seem like a long time, but shit, time really flies. I still remember spending an hour getting ready for our first 'meetup' after two years of total silence. I was so fucking nervous. I know, I know, I'm a smooth criminal, but she always manages to give me butterflies.

I could go on and on and on and on and on about how wonderful things are, how wonderful she is, etc, but I won't bore you. Suffice it to say, she'll be moving to Portland in January and that makes me a very, very, very, very, very happy boy.

I just purchased two tickets to see the Deftones in two weeks. I haven't paid that much for concert tickets in ages. Since Tool, probably. Coachella doesn't count, since there were like 120,000 bands there. Regardless, I'm excited. Ms. Kim will be my date. I haven't really given them much attention over the last few years, but I've always wanted to see them -- they had such a profound effect on my angsty power-chord teenage years. Plus, I want to see how fat Chino is.

Today, I got a mass-message from some myspace-music account. I usually disregard them, but they were offering up their album for free. It's nothing amazingly groundbreaking, but if you dig some neato production, you sure as shit can't beat free. They aren't paying me to plus this, I genuinely dig it. Life updates for October.

Me with the Hard Disk Recorder on the set of the full-length feature film, "Hand in Hand". I will have a credit on IMDB soon as "Sound Mixer". We shoot about 12-13 hours a day. We have two weeks left. It is challenging because I have never done sound before. It's fun to learn new things.

-Aguirre: The Wrath of God
Dir. and Written by Werner Herzog
Starring Klaus Kinski
The most powerful movie I've seen in a long time. The last 15 minutes of this movie is fucking phenomenal. I have watched this movie everyday for the last week.

-The New 3-disc Seven Samurai by Criterion Collection
Dir. Akira Kurasawa
The most beautiful transfer yet of this classic. Every shot is a piece of art.

-Subtle - For Hero: For Fool
A perfect mix of old and new Dose. I HEART THIS BAND.

-Sunn0))) & Boris - Altar
Are you fucking kidding me!?!?!?! I shouldn't even have to say how good this is.

- Icarus Line - Penance Soiree (vinyl)
The vinyl of this album has alternate mixes, longer versions and new songs.

-V8
Yes, everyday. Probably the only reason I'm alive.

-Area 51 on-Google Maps.. Just type in Area 51 and put it on "hybrid". Strange.

Oh, and this picture, which the photographer claims to be a picture of a real demon:
